Each of our coaches are certified lifeguards and trained in CPR and first aid. In addition, each coach, board member, and chaperone receives the United States Center for SafeSport training. This training aims to bring awareness to and prevent all forms of athlete abuse.

2023 - 2024 Coaching Staff


Coach Kayla -

Head Coach

Kayla swam for the Sculpins from 2005-2009 where she competed regionally and nationally. She is a CCP level 3 coach, level 1 judge, and lifeguard. The 2023-2024 season is Kayla’s 9th year coaching for the Sculpins.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from SUNY Cortland and a Master’s degree in Special Education and Literacy from The College of Saint Rose. In college Kayla started a recreational synchro club at the local YMCA and coached a speed swimming team for children and young adults with disabilities. She works as a teacher in Troy. In her free time Kayla is slowly chipping away at the 46 high peaks of the Adirondacks to become a 46er, and the other various hiking challenges in the Adirondacks.


Coach Katie - Assistant Coach

Katie swam for the Sculpins from 2002-2010. She began coaching as an athlete in 2007. She is a CCP Level 2 coach. This is her 9th year coaching.

Katie is a registered nurse and received her nursing degree from Maria College. In her spare time she enjoys traveling, all things country music, and spending time with her black lab, Dolly Pawton.

Coach Abby - Assistant Coach

Abby swam for the Granite YMCA Catalinas in NH from 2010-2017. She is a certified CCP Level 1 coach. This is Abby’s second year coaching with us. 

Abby holds a BS in Biology and two minors in Environmental Science and Chemistry from Clarkson University. Abby currently works as a laboratory technician in Rensselaer. When she’s not working or coaching Abby likes to dog sit and hang out with friends and family. 

Coach Elissa - Assistant Coach

Coach Elissa has been involved in the sport for a total of 20 years. -First as a swimmer with the New Canaan Aquianas and then as a coach for Boston University. The 2023-2024 season is Elissa’s second year coaching for the Sculpins.

Elissa has worked as a cheesemonger and a chef and now works in the beverage industry. She enjoys traveling and watching movies. Her favorite cheese is aged Gouda and her favorite artistic swimming event is free team.
